How do I name the placeholder fields in my Word template?

Placeholders must exactly match the column headers in the first row of your Excel sheet, wrapped in double curly braces — e.g. {{Invoice Number}}, {{Client Name}}. The match is case-sensitive, so {{city}} and {{City}} are treated as different fields.

Do I need to install any software?

No. ExcelToWords runs entirely in your browser — nothing to install. You only need a Google or email account to sign up and start generating documents.

Is there a file size limit on uploads?

Yes, upload size limits apply and vary by subscription plan. Higher-tier plans support larger files. If you hit a limit, upgrading your plan or contacting us for the Enterprise tier is the right path.

Can I sign in with Google?

No, not at the moment. We plan to implement this option in the future if we find out that this is the preferred way of registration for the majority of users.

Can I use formulas in my Excel sheet?

Yes — the app reads the computed result of each formula cell, not the formula itself. Make sure your formulas evaluate to the values you want to appear in the document before uploading.

What happens to rows with empty cells?

If a cell is empty, the corresponding placeholder in the output document is replaced with an empty string. The document is still generated; it simply won't contain a value for that field.

Can I use the same placeholder multiple times in one template?

Yes. You can repeat a placeholder anywhere in the document — in the body, headers, footers, or tables — and it will be replaced with the same value everywhere it appears.
